Costs

The initial consultation is £150. It is generally much better for men considering a vasectomy reversal to have a face to face consultation and examination with Mr Swinn beforehand. This is so that any anatomical problems such as a spermatocoele or fibrosis can be identified preoperatively as these can affect the success rate. Also, issues such as sperm extraction and cryopreservation (freezing) can be discussed.

Patients’ partners are very welcome to attend the consultation. In fact, Mr Swinn positively encourages it.

For those travelling from abroad or from long distances within the UK, it is not always practicable to attend the hospital beforehand and if this is the case, then a consultation and examination on the proposed day of surgery can usually be arranged.

The total cost of a microsurgical reversal of vasectomy at The Vasectomy Reversal Clinic is £3290.

This is a “package price” which is inclusive of every aspect of the procedure from start to finish, even if it is a redo, ie it includes:

  • the surgeon’s fee
  • the anaesthetist’s fee
  • the hospital fee
  • overnight stay
  • use of the surgical theatre including operating microscope
  • semen analysis at 3 months post surgery
  • follow up consultation

If sperm retrieval and cryopreservation (freezing) are requested then there is an additional charge of £1200. This price includes MESA (microepididymal sperm aspiration) or TESE (testicular sperm extraction), analysis in theatre by an embryologist and cryopreservation in a centre approved by the HFEA (Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority). It also includes counselling by the embryologist and preoperative screening tests for hepatitis and HIV as requested by the HFEA.
